About Us
The Daily Post is the Central North Island's daily newspaper and is the main source of local news, views, entertainment and information. While our focus is strongly local, we also provide up-to-date national and international news, and a wide sports cover. The Daily Post is read on average by 35,000 people a day (AC Neilsen).
The core circulation area covers the greater Rotorua area including Ngongotaha, Mamaku, Hamurana, Kaharoa, the Lakes area, Kaingaroa, Murupara, Rerewhakaatiu, Waikite, Ngakuru and Atiamuri.
The Daily Post is also a regional paper circulating in the important tourist and industrial centres of Taupo, Tokoroa, Kawerau, Whakatane, Opotiki, Te Puke and surrounding areas including rural and coastal settlements.
History
The Daily Post was founded in 1885 as the Hot Lakes Chronicle. One of its world scoops was the eruption of Mt Tarawera in June 1886.
Rotorua is the cultural and spiritual centre of the Te Arawa people, who settled in New Zealand in the 12th century.
Modern Rotorua was established as a spa resort in 1880.
