Local teacher denied bail

A Rotorua teacher who admitted beating his pregnant wife and threatening to kill her because she was having a girl and not a boy, has been denied bail after allegedly constantly phoning her.

Shiu Nadan, 52, was denied bail when he appeared before Judge Chris McGuire in the Rotorua District Court yesterday for breaching his bail conditions on March 4 by allegedly ringing his wife, who was now living with her sister at Katikati.

Nadan was remanded in custody to re-appear in court on March 17.

He is due to be sentenced on May 6 for the domestic violence charges.

He is due back in court on March 23 for a defended hearing on driving charges.
