Soon-to-be senior citizens living in Rotorua now have access to a wealth of new information designed to help them keep active and involved in their community.
The Rotorua District Council has released the new brochure that is brimming with fun activities and courses for the over-50s.
The "H.I.P - Stuff for Baby Boomers" brochure aims to get local soon-to-be-seniors involved in hobbies, interests and passions.
Council community policy and resources manager Ann Esler said the initiative was to help over-50s enjoy a proactive approach to aging.
"One positive way to age actively is to get involved in new, or reconnect with former, hobbies, interests, clubs and organisations as retirement draws nearer.
"Strong connections such as these significantly enhance the quality of life as people age.
"Research studies have shown people who participate in activities with others often enjoy the added benefit of improved health and well-being," Mrs Esler said.
Activities in the brochure are featured under three headings - Discovery, Creative, and Active, and include information on where people can attend voluntary work, dance classes, a variety of crafts, write a family history, master Te Reo Maori, learn to fly and activities with wheels.
