Rotorua Boys' High School and Tauranga Boys' College re-inked their credentials as genuine heavyweights in the latest round of the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Secondary Schools first fifteen competition.
While the two teams have Super Eight and traditional school games on their future agendas, both showed the form during the weekend that has put them among the top North Island rugby schools.
Their latest results were imposing, hinting of impressive things to come this season.
Rotorua ran in 16 tries as they waltzed away from Trident High School 106-0 on Saturday. Timoti Marr led the way with three touchdowns, with William Howard, Richie Megaw and Henry Kershaw grabbing doubles.
Rotorua team management commended the visitors who, despite the one-way traffic, never gave up and continued to play positive rugby. The Rotorua player of the day was adjudged to be Temana Harrison.
Tauranga Boys' also posted a large scoreline, beating Western Heights 78-0. Tauranga hooker Nathan Harris celebrated his return from injury by grabbing three tries, with winger Kody McGovern using his pace to dot down for a triple.
Reporoa College continued their unbeaten run, to finish at the top of the table of section one in division two.
Playing Mount Maunganui at home, Reporoa ran in seven tries on their way to a 39-20 win. A strong forward display against a willing Mount side was the key to victory.
Hooker Ben Mason led the Reporoa charge, scoring twice. While defeated, Mount were pleased with their play against strong opposition, with team management saying it was one of their best performances of the season.
Taupo Nui A Tia continued their outstanding first round form in division three, with another solid victory, 45-17, over Aquinas College.
In a game where the Taupo team were made to fight for victory, they gave another polished performance against a side that never gave up the fight.
The latest victory in round-robin competition sees Taupo Nui A Tia head to next weekend's semifinals with an unbeaten record, having amassed 231 points in just five games.
