Bike Festival buys piece of velodrome
The inaugural Rotorua Bike Festival has bought a piece of track at the Home of Cycling Avantidrome in Cambridge.
The first Rotorua Bike Festival - supported by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust - will be held for 10 days in February and is a celebration of cycling with a mix of events and entertainment.
The festival bought a $250 section of track at Cambridge's Avantidrome, which opens at the end of 2013, to celebrate the area becoming New Zealand's centre of cycling excellence.
Home of Cycling Charitable Trust chief executive Geoff Balme said they were excited to have the support of the festival.
"The Rotorua Bike Festival supports the trust's vision of increased community participation inspired by world-class cycling facilities, programmes and champions. It's all part of Waikato and Rotorua becoming New Zealand's region of cycling excellence."
