Cathy Dewes gets honorary doctorate | Rotorua News | Local News in Rotorua

Cathy Dewes (Te Arawa and Ngāti Porou) was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Waikato at Ruamata Marae in Rotorua today.

Waikato University Chancellor Jim Bolger said Cathy Dewes had an outstanding career.

He said her contribution to the revitalisation of Maori language and Maori education, her commitment to her local community and her many accomplishments were consistent with the university's vision, charter, goals and distinctiveness.

There were some 400 people including a large delegation from Ngati Porou, Maori academics, educationalists and kura kaupapa children at the ceremony.
