FUN challenges and obstacle courses are set to bring a fun family atmosphere.
The E Oho Fordlands' Whanau Face Off this weekend will include a range of whanau activities similar to the Top Town competition, in the hope of bringing whanau together for a fun bonding community day out.
Fordlands youth group co-ordinator Rebekah Nafe said the group were one of five youth teams in Rotorua helping to make a difference in their community and were looking forward to taking part in the day.
"The event is based around building positive relationships between whanau and getting youth to help out and take responsibility within the community," she said.
The one-day event is free and is expected to attract at least 150 people, and will involve three main family challenges including a triathlon, a fear factor challenge and a military-styled obstacle course.
There will also be live graffiti alongside multisports in between each challenge, a $10 hangi, steam pudding and drink as well as a prize of $300 awarded to the top whanau who participates well overall. Performers were also encouraged to come along and have a sing or dance throughout the day.
E Oho Fordlands youth group representative and team leader Haki Dasha Te Purei said she had received a lot of positive feedback about the event and hoped the project would bring a lot of families together. "It's all about working towards a positive change in the community and giving every whanau the opportunity to come together and have a wicked day out," she said.
The 18-year-old said the group had been working on making the day a fulfilling event for the community since the beginning of the year and hoped it would have a positive fun atmosphere.
The event will take place on Saturday at the Wrigley Rd Reserve off Bellingham Cres from 10am to 4pm. For information contact Rebekah Nafe on (07) 348 5051.
