The Rotorua District Council is encouraging local migrants interested in helping with interpretation services to attend an information session this month.

It is being held on Tuesday, February 26, from 6pm to 7.30pm at the Civic Centre.

Council settlement support co-ordinator Heather McAllister said Decypher Interpreting Services is offering an 11-week course in March. Migrants would find out about the course content and time involved at the evening.

"Many migrants interpret for their communities. However, they can sometimes become more involved in the situation than originally intended, and are then unsure of how to deal with it," Ms McAllister said.

"There's also the opportunity to pick up paid interpreting work in Rotorua or to assist local government agencies."

Anyone interested should contact Heather McAllister on (07) 351 7054 or email heather.mcallister@rdc.govt.nz.
