Cyclist dies after crash

An elderly cyclist has died after a car crash in Taupo yesterday.

Taupo police said Nevill Palmer, 93, died after the crash which happened about 4.20pm on Tamamutu St.

Police said the crash was between a car and Mr Palmer, who was a Taupo resident.

Both the car and the cyclist were travelling east on Tamamutu St.

Police said initial investigations indicated the cyclist was attempting to turn right and had crossed the path of the car.

"The cyclist an elderly male who resided in Taupo, sustained serious head and leg injuries resulting in him being taken to Taupo Hospital where he died later that afternoon."

The driver, who was the sole occupant in the car, was not injured.

Investigations into the crash are continuing and anyone with any information about the incident should contact Taupo police on (07) 378 6060.
