Daily Post up for major press award

The Daily Post has been named a finalist in the best newspaper category of the Pacific Area Newspapers Publishing Association (Panpa) Awards.

Your local newspaper is the only New Zealand daily paper to be a finalist. Other nominees include the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Courier-Mail, The Canberra Times and Singapore's The Business Times.

The Daily Post also made the finals in three other categories.

Chief photographer Stephen Parker is one of three finalists in the news photograph of the year category. His photo of a brawl in Rotorua's Fordlands is up against pictures by two Australian photographers.

Our marketing department is up for two awards: as a finalist in the cause-related marketing category for the Skool Rulz publication, which featured school news and profiles from all over the district; and in the marketing events category, for last year's Raggamuffin promotion.

General Manager Greg Alexander said for The Daily Post to reach the final in four categories was a fantastic achievement for the team.

"It is recognition for the tireless devotion.

"Every day our team strives to publish a compelling and 'must read' paper for our region and to be placed amongst the leading newspapers in Australia, Pacific, Asia and New Zealand is a huge honour for us."

Award winners are announced next Wednesday.
