Sentencing for Rotorua's Philomena Marcelle Matthews, 37, who has pleaded guilty to being the owner of a pitbull that attacked a toddler causing serious injuries, has been adjourned.

On December 15 last year at a house in Ruth St, Fordlands the visiting 18-month-old was bitten three times by the tied-up pitbull - once in the forehead which "de-gloved'' her skin and required 20 stitches.

Matthews was to be sentenced in the Rotorua District Court today but Judge Jocelyn Munro said the court needed more information and requested a pre-sentence report.

She remanded Matthews on bail to reappear for sentencing on April 11.
