Family pet still missing after fatal Tokoroa fire

The family members of the elderly woman who died in a burning Tokoroa house have been hit with another blow.

Not only are the family members who survived the fire having to deal with a death, they have appealed to Tokoroa residents to keep an eye out for their dog Toby. The dog was last seen late Monday afternoon in the Kelso St area of the Waikato town.

The woman who was found dead in the Tieke Pl house has been named as Joan Edith Bloor, 82. The fire broke out early Monday. Two other family members escaped.

Police and fire safety specialists continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Senior Sergeant Lincoln Sycamore of the Tokoroa police said the intensity of the fire was hampering the progress of the investigation into its cause.

The scene examination was continuing yesterday.

The dog is described as black, brown, grey, and white, similar to a small Maltese-type dog, wearing a distinctive purple dog-coat.
