This weekend marks the opening of the trout fishing season on Rotorua's lakes and Lake Tarawera's Landing Cafe is marking the occasion with a festival.
"It's a huge day for us and we've got some great entertainment ready for the opening," said cafe lessee Peter Watson.
The action starts at 5pm tomorrow with the traditional blessing of boats and haggis ceremony for the many anglers who head to the lake early in preparation for the official opening of the lake at 5am on Saturday.
"We've got whisky available and some tents serving great food like steak sandwiches, gourmet pizzas and American hotdogs."
Mr Watson said the first band, The Sam and Eric Show, start up about 6pm and play through to 9pm. Then the stars of the night come out with New Zealand country music legend Brendan Duggan and special guest Linda taking the stage from 9pm to midnight.
He said on Saturday morning the cafe would remain open for those who need breakfast before a long day fishing.
Mr Watson said the entire day's entertainment was free and he encouraged locals and visitors alike to share the occasion.
Mr Watson said Rotorua's Bloke with a Bus was also available to pick up and drop off people keen to take part, but not drive.
People can arrange transport for a small fee by calling (0508) 278 946.
