A transformer box caught on fire in central Rotorua causing power outages to several homes and businesses.
The transformer box near the intersection of Ranolf St and Malfroy Rd caught on fire after being hit by a car about 8.15pm.
Police and firefighters were at the scene.
The fire was put out about 9.20pm but firefighters remained at the scene.
It is not yet known how many people were affected by the power outage.
Bystanders said they saw a car hit the transformer box causing it to catch on fire.
