Four paddocks on the western side of Lake Taupo were burnt to a crisp after a fire on Sunday. Rotorua fire investigator Stuart Bootten said the blaze was brought under control before it got to a line of trees.

The fire was on a Western Bay Rd, Kuratau, property around 4pm.

Mr Bootten said two fire crews from Turangi were joined by a truck each from Mangakino and Taumarunui as well as three Rural Fire appliances and two water tankers.

"The fire was driven by a light breeze and pushed through the grass," Mr Bootten said.

"Four paddocks have been burnt and the fence posts too. It's very dry out there."

He said the fire was being investigated.
