Scion has welcomed two new members to its board - a Rotorua company director and a former Zespri chief executive.
Rotorua's Judith Stanway is a partner and director and national chairwoman of BDO chartered accountants and Tony Nowell is a professional company director and founding director of trade and export company Valadenz Limited. Mr Nowell was chief executive of Zespri until 2008.
Research, Science and Technology Minister Wayne Mapp announced Mr Nowell would also be the new chairman.
The appointments follow the departure of chairman Russ Ballard and deputy chairwoman Bronwyn Monopoli.
Scion chief executive Tom Richardson, who is resigning to take up the role of AgResearch chief executive in September, said both outgoing board members had contributed to some outstanding scientific achievements and much improved financial performance positions for Scion during their six years there.
The new chairman is experienced in governance and international trade and development, having also served as managing director for Griffin's Food Limited and regional vice president of Sarah Lee Asia. Mr Nowell has also held governance roles with the Food and Beverage Taskforce and Leadership New Zealand. Ms Stanway has worked with the forestry sector and has held director positions on companies in timber processing and distribution.
