With summer in full effect, Granny Grommet and Me is a good way to teach children about water safety.

It tells the story of a child who goes along to the beach with their granny who hits the surf with her friends.

Granny is a grommet and loves to surf but she's also safe. She puts sunblock on, she checks for rips and she wears wetsuits to keep warm.

The child in the book also acts like most children - a little wary of what's under the waves and splashes around near the shore.

Granny and her friends make the child feel safe and confident of the water. They encourage the child to explore the ocean and relieves any fears.

One of the best parts of the book is Granny's beach tips - fun safety messages for kids.

The illustrations are good and the length of the story is one that kids and parents can enjoy - it's not too long so it should keep their attention from start to finish.
