Get best friend snapped at Dogs Day Out

If you'd like to help raise funds for the Rotorua SPCA, why not take your dog along to a special day out designed just for them and have their photo taken while there.

Rotorua's Visique McClelland Optometrists' Tony Bland is taking his camera to the VetPlus Dogs Day Out tomorrow to raise funds for Rotorua's SPCA by snapping pictures of the dogs for their owners.

This is the fourth year he and wife Aleisha have taken part, with donations paid for the photographs going to the SPCA.

Mrs Bland came up with the idea as a fundraiser for the animal shelter, Mr Bland said.

"As I am keen on photography, we take photographs of the dogs and print an A4 size print for the owners to collect about a week later," he said. Owners pay a donation for the photo of their beloved pet.

"We do this for whatever the owner can donate, and all proceeds are given to the SPCA." Each year they take pictures of about 40 dogs, raising roughly $400.

"We have a number of owners who have a photo taken every time as their dog gets older."

"I like to take mostly face shots to catch the character as much as possible," he said.

He also takes photos of pets at other times, giving the proceeds to the SPCA. More details about the photographs are available at www.madeye.co.nz.

Dogs Day Out will be at the Scion grounds on Sala St tomorrow with registrations at 9.30am. There will be stalls, a walk through the Redwoods, dog displays and lots of spot prizes and competitions. Entry is $5 per dog.
