Glassie abuser back in court
One of the men jailed for abusing Rotorua's Nia Glassie has found himself in trouble again.
Michael Paul Pearson, 26, made a brief appearance in the Rotorua District Court yesterday before Judge Chris McGuire. He pleaded guilty to one charge of disorderly behaviour relating to an incident in Rotorua's Tutanekai St and one charge of possession of a pipe used for smoking drugs. Both offences happened on December 27 last year.
Judge McGuire convicted Pearson and sentenced him to 40 hours' community work.
In 2008, Pearson was sentenced to three years' jail for ill-treating and assaulting 3-year-old Nia Glassie, who died after months of abuse by a number of people. He was released in 2010 and his parole conditions ended in January 2011.
In February last year, Pearson was sentenced to six months' jail after pleading guilty in the Rotorua District Court to a charge each of burglary, careless driving, unlawfully getting onto a motorcycle and driving while disqualified.
He also pleaded guilty to driving a motorcycle in Thomas Cres with a blood alcohol level of 200mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.
