After two days of play in the Northern Districts Under-14 cricket tournament, the two Bay of Plenty teams have each posted a win and a loss.
Lakelands got their campaign back on track when they snatched victory from Midlands. Batting first, the Bay side was dismissed for a relatively modest 127 with Michael McCarty keeping the innings together with an unbeaten 36.
The Lakelands bowlers kept the side in the chase picking up wickets whenever the Midlands batsmen looked set to cut loose.
At 120/7 Midlands appeared headed for victory, however the Lakelands bowlers picked up the last three wickets for just three runs to grab a thrilling four run victory. Christian Thurston was outstanding with the ball, picking up five wickets, while Chris Biggs chimed in with three wickets.
Meanwhile, Coastlands failed to adapt to a grass wicket, which had plenty of turn for the bowlers and were dismissed for 88 by Hamilton. They were in big trouble at 55/9 before Hayden Goodall and Gurpreet Singh put on 33 runs for the last wicket.
The total was never going to be enough against the tournament favourites and Hamilton coasted home to finish at 91/3.
Day two results: Lakelands 127 (M McCarty 36no) defeated Midlands (C Thurston 5/20, C Biggs 3/21). Coastlands 88 lost to Hamilton 91/3.
