At approximately 1030 this morning the Rotorua based BayTrust rescue helicopter was despatched by Ambulance communications to assist an injured man in the Ohutu Stream (Urewera), about 65 km East of Rotorua. The man was injured in a fall the night previous but the alarm was only raised when a member of the group walked out of the area this morning and notified authorities. The man was located and a Advanced Paramedic from St John(Rotorua) was winched into the site using the First Sovereign Trust Rescue Winch. After being given medical assistance the man was winched onto the helicopter and flown to Rotorua Hospital. The 20 year old Putaruru man was in a comfortable condition after receiving head and leg injuries.
