A missing Rotorua man has been found dead.

Detective Sergeant John Wilson said police found the body of 42-year-old Bruce Fowler in an area of Kaingaroa Forest, near Minginui, about 9.30am yesterday.

Mr Fowler had not been seen since  Wednesday last week and was reported missing on Monday by his older sister Dianne Fowler, with whom he had been living.

Police, search and rescue volunteers and forest security had been searching for Mr Fowler and his car since Wednesday afternoon.

The car was found in Kaingaroa Forest, near Minginui, on Thursday night and at first light yesterday police and search and rescue volunteers  found Mr Fowler's body in a stand of pine trees near the vehicle.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
