ULTIMATE MALE: Classic Hits breakfast co-host Luke Valentine shows what it may take to be named Mr Rotorua 2010. ANDREW WARNER 200810AW11
If you're a man who can cook, crack a good joke and swing a hammer, you might have what it takes to be crowned the first Mr Rotorua.
Classic Hits radio station and Distinction Hotel are searching for the ultimate male all-rounder and those nominated will have their skills put to the test.
The brains behind the idea was breakfast co-host Chloe Emirali, who wanted a unique competition which involved the men of the community.
"I'm new to Rotorua from Auckland so I thought it would just liven the place up," she said.
"Rather than a bachelors' competition, it's open to all men, all ages, any relationship status.
"Nominations opened on Monday and we've had 15 so far. A lot are family men, some have been nominated by their wife and been told they're going to do it."
Five finalists will be chosen who will be pitted against each other from August 30. The challengers will have to display a mixture of physical prowess, culinary flair and be in touch with their feminine side.
Tasks include hitting the streets of Rotorua dressed like a "lady" while raising money for the New Zealand prostate cancer foundation. As well as creating a meal judged by a professional chef, building a wheel barrow, tackling an obstacle course and trying to make Lynmore Primary School students laugh.
"We are looking for men who are outgoing, no one boring," Ms Emirali said.
As well as bragging rights the winner will receive a weekend for two at Distinction Hotel Rotorua, two VIP passes to Agroventures, gondola and luge rides at Skyline Rotorua, dirt bike tours with Pure Dirt Tours and a Waiora Lakeside Spa massage.
Registrations can be made on the Classic Hits website and close on August 27.
