FEAR AND LOATHING: Award-winning alternative country singer Delaney Davidson is playing a gig on the Lakeland Queen with support from Germany's Los Hermanos.

He describes himself as part man, part wheel and after more than 10 years touring the world Delaney Davidson is back in New Zealand, playing in Rotorua later this month.

The part man, part wheel reference comes from his semi-homeless lifestyle which has seen him visit Ireland, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Britain, Switzerland, Mexico, Austria, Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, France, United States, Argentina and Australia on a decade-long solo tour of the world.

Originally from Christchurch, Davidson will be playing his original brand of alternative country blues on the Lakeland Queen with support from German duo Los Hermanos who describe themselves as a "sharp dressed two man band from Munich with two guitars, two suits, a kick, a bucket and a megaphono".

The gig, called Fear and Loathing in Rotovegas will be held on Rotorua's Lakeland Queen on Friday, January 25.

Davidson won the APRA Best Country Song for 2012 with his ballad You're A Loser from his 2011 album Bad Luck Man. The album was given five stars by London's The Independent and four stars by the New Zealand Herald in reviews.

He says his music is "too loud for folk and too quiet for rock".

"I never worked so hard as I do now, self employment is the key to an early grave, I see this in lots of musician friends of mine as well.

"You are your own travel agent, your own booking agent, your own photographer, your own graphic designer, your own manager, your own producer - on top of that you are a musician," he says on his website. He has also shared the stage with underground queen Holly Golightly, Deep Purple, cult legend Reverend Beatman, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Gomez.

Fear and Loathing in Rotovegas, on board The Lakeland Queen, is on Friday, January 25.

There is a free glass of champagne and nibbles provided. Happy hour is from 7pm to 8pm with sailing at 8pm sharp.

Tickets are $30 from Abracadabra Cafe and Bar, Lakeland Queen, Musicworks and Ticketmaster.
