If you could go anywhere in Asia where would you go for three months?

Rotorua's Niels Yuan is off to Cambodia as part of an internship at ANZ Royal Bank in Phnom Penh.

The former Western Heights High School student is thrilled about the three-month trip where he will learn first-hand about the Asian financial markets.

"With its booming economies, Asia is set to be the centre of growth in the financial world in the coming years," he said.

The 21-year-old's trip will be funded by the Asia New Zealand Foundation ANZ Bank offshore internship programme.

"I've never been to Cambodia before. I've been reading up on the history."

Asia New Zealand's business programme director James Penn said the scholarship was a very important one for New Zealand.

"Six of New Zealand's top 10 trading partners are now in Asia. Giving young New Zealanders business experience in the region helps build the long-term capacity of Kiwi companies to engage with those markets."

Asia New Zealand is a non-profit, non-political organisation dedicated to building New Zealand's links with Asia through a range of programmes including business, culture, education, research and media.

Mr Yuan completed his undergraduate degree in finance at the National University of Singapore earlier this year, supported by the Asia New Zealand Singapore Scholarship programme.
