A dispute over noise in Tania Cres turned violent when men arrived onsite carrying weapons.

A man has been arrested after a carload of men carrying weapons set upon a house in Rotorua's Tania Cres after a dispute about stereo noise.

Detective George Staunton of the Rotorua CIB said between midnight and 9am the property was visited three times by the same group complaining about the noise.

Each time threats of violence escalated.

He said a blue four-door sedan and a light coloured Honda or similar vehicle left the house before police arrived.

The sedan travelled along Steeles Lane towards Clayton Rd while the Honda travelled to Cherrywood Place.

A 34-year-old man is to appear in the Rotorua District Court today facing a charge of possession of an offensive weapon.

The police wanted to talk to anyone who saw the vehicles or had any information about the incident. They should contact Rotorua police on (07) 349 9400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
