Nominations still open for Bay of Plenty Sports Awards

Public nominations are still open for the Bay of Plenty Sports Awards.

The awards, hosted by Sport Bay of Plenty, recognise the achievements of senior and secondary school sportspeople, coaches, administrators and teams for the period of January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004.

Nomination forms have been sent to all regional bodies, and secondary schools and are available from Sport Bay of Plenty offices in Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane. Nominations close on January 7.

Categories in the ASB-sponsored awards include sportsman and sportswoman of the year, coach, best team performance, referee and junior sportsperson.

There have also been several changes made to the categories since last year. These include the addition of a referee/umpire category, the athlete with a disability category integrated into open categories and the service to the sport category - where each sport will select their own recipient to be recognised on the night.

Last year's winner of the Supreme Award was the Bay of Plenty Interprovincial Golf Team.
