Police seek man in connection to sex assault
Taupo police want help from members of the public to find a man thought to be responsible for an alleged sexual assault.
Detective Sergeant Tony Manunui of the Taupo CIB said the incident happened on Thursday night.
He said the 22-year-old victim was walking down Heu Heu St, then went into a service lane leading to the rear entrance of Urban Retreat Backpackers when she was approached and grabbed by a man.
"A struggle between the pair ensued and the victim ended up on the ground but managed to fight her attacker off and scream for help."
Mr Manunui said the offender ran off towards Titiraupenga St.
He said police had analysed CCTV from the area and would like to speak to a man spotted in the image.
"We would like to hear form anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the alleged incident last Thursday night, or from anyone who recognises the male in the attached CCTV images."
