Rotorua athletes perform at Games

Preliminary results from the College Games in Hamilton are indicating strong performances from Rotorua athletes.
Rotorua Boys' High School's Jonathan Coates and Wade Mangham finished second and third respectively in the under-16 mountainbiking event, Rotorua Girls' High School's Renee Hannah won the overall gold medal for the tournament water skiing with John Paul College's Nicolle Hannah claiming silver in the trickski and the overall bronze medal.
Girls' High's Monique Avery and Charlotte Pearson won the team's duathlon event, while John Paul College enjoyed strong performances in the pool with Jonathon Griffiths claiming two bronze medals in the 16 and over 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke. Jodi Smyth took bronze in the 16 and over 200m breaststroke, as well as make the finals of the 100m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.
Schoolmates Nick Gordon, Carla van Bommel, Elise Westcott, Sarah Hollamby, Reegan Jordan all made the final of their events, with Jordan also swimming three personal bests in the 100m breaststroke, 50m and 100m butterfly.
The Games finished yesterday.
