A trio of Rotorua's promising tennis stars have been included in the Eastern Districts representative team to play in the National Teams event next year.

Fourteen-year-olds Harata Douglas and Okeroa Douglas impressed selectors with their speed and agility to be included in the 14 years Eastern age group team to compete in Auckland from January 24, while 16-year-old Steven Donoghue will compete at his age group teams events in Christchurch from January 10.

The Rotorua trio are among five Bay of Plenty representatives to make the 20 strong team of players selected from the Bay of Plenty, Western BOP and Poverty Bay.

The other players are Taupo's Tyler Stevens (16 years) and Whakatane's Sam Barr (14 and under boys).

Bay of Plenty Association secretary Cathy Donoghue said it was a coup to get the three Rotorua Tennis Club players in the Eastern team and was confident the quality of tennis in the area would be strengthened.

In addition, the nationally ranked players have been named in their respective age group teams to represent the BOP.

They will all test their skills at the Rotorua-hosted Masters Carvers Trophy (12 years and under), the Shand Cup (14 years and under) and in the Richardson Cup (18 years and under) in Gisborne.
