Fickle weather lead to the postponement of the Bay of Plenty Trailer Yacht Squadron's club championships on Lake Rotoiti at the weekend.
While one junior race and three javelin and trailer yacht races were held in light winds on Saturday, BOPTYS Commodore Adrian McHardy said racing was forced be abandoned on Sunday due to strong winds.
"We certainly had a mixed bag at the weekend," McHardy said.
"There was hardly any wind on Saturday and then it turned to custard on Sunday.
"At one point gusts of 39 knots were recorded - it was most frustrating."
McHardy said the club championships, which consist of a minimum of five series, have been deferred until a suitable date can be found and confirmed for next year.
He also said the weekend was disapointing for several javelin sailors who had been hoping to use the club championships as a trial for the interprovisional Sanders Memorial Cup to be sailed at Gisborne from January 15-17.
