Santa has made an early appearance in Rotorua.
He's taken up residence at the Edmund Rd home of Paul and Michelle Geerlings and their children, keeping an eye on things from a special grotto that lights up the street at nights.
Most of the handiwork was completed by Mr Geerlings, who has installed about 4000 lights inside, outside, on and around the house.
Mrs Geerlings said 12-year-old daughter Amber and son Shaun, 8, also put in plenty of hours, spending two weeks creating the manger area now on display from within their garage.
The family have entered this year's Christmas Lights Spectacular, run annually by Professionals McDowell Real Estate.
Mrs Geerlings said the family had plenty of fun preparing their Christmas spectacular and enjoyed having people stop to check it out at night when it was at its best.
"We do this just for the pleasure of other people," said Mrs Geerlings. "They have already started to stop. I came home from work last night and couldn't get in the gate there were so many cars," she said.
Entries for the Christmas Lights Spectacular are open until December 13 with entry forms available from McDowell Real Estate.
