Conditions today, are perfect for the opening day of the 7th Danny Lee Springfield Open.

With a slight westerly breeze and temperatures already in the 20s by 11am, the 96 strong field for the two day competition are making full use of the conditions.

Men's favourite Victor Janin is looking in ominous form, teeing off on the 11th (par 5) known to Rotorua locals as the "Tin Roof" he sent his shot rocketing down the fairway.

Janin's form leading into the tournament has been running hot with reports the golfer equalled the club's record of 62, set in 2007 by Danny Lee.

Women's favourite Chantelle Cassidy who teed off earlier in the morning on the same hole, looks equally impressive.

The golfers play two 18 hole rounds today with a final 18 hole final to be played tomorrow. This year's competition will see a new champion crowned with Rotorua's Landyn Edwards and Pakuranga's Munchin Keh not returning to defend their titles.

Rumours of tournament sponsor Danny Lee returning for a surprise visit have turned out to be unfounded with the New Zealand No.1 reported to be in Hawaii.
