Bay of Plenty police are yet to find a man who had his head stomped on numerous times during New Year's Eve festivities in Mount Maunganui.

The victim was last seen staggering through crowds on Marine Parade about 11.30pm.

He was bleeding heavily and could have lost a couple of teeth after another man stomped in his head numerous times, Detective Kevin Shields said.

The alleged offender ran across the road as police approached, but was soon found and arrested.

Police appealed for the victim to come forward so the appropriate support, and medical treatment, could be sought.

However, a week after the incident police had still not found the victim and inquiries to date had not identified him, police spokeswoman Kim Perks said.
