Now it's really official - Barraud Pl is Rotorua's neatest street twice over.

Residents of the quiet Pukehangi suburban cul-de-sac were awarded the title for the second time in a row in a competition run by Rotorua organisations Neighbourhood Support and Keep Rotorua Beautiful.

Barraud Pl Neighbourhood Support co-ordinator Tim Henneveld said they didn't expect to win again this year. Virtually all the street participated and it did not take a lot of effort to get the street looking tidy.

"Everyone in the street keeps their properties looking tidy all the time."

He said that during the week of the competition he made a call to the residents and they did a quick clean up. They were lucky, he said, the street looked quite colourful with the trees in flower.

Keep Rotorua Beautiful co-ordinator Christine Findon agreed and said there was lots of colour. "The rhododendrons were in flower."

But the decision was still tight with half a point difference between the winner, Hall Rd and Foley Dr.

"The overall standard was very high and every street entered was right up there. It shows that many of us take pride in their part of Rotorua." she said.

There were nine entries and Mrs Findon said they would have liked to have seen more entries but were happy with the calibre of those entered.

The main things taken into account were a lack of litter and weeds. Mrs Findon said that during their inspection of one street there was a single can in the gutter. "It cost them the competition."

Barraud St received a plaque and a meat voucher for a celebration barbecue which Mr Henneveld said would be held in February.
