Holidaymakers and sunbathers in the Western Bay can expect the balmy weather to continue throughout Auckland Anniversary Weekend.

Metservice forecaster Daniel Corbett said the hot dry weather was here to stay for the rest of January.

"We are certainly in for a nice, settled spell so my advice would be to get the beach towels out and the barbecue ready," he said. "We are mainly staying in the 20s during the week then heading toward the late 20s in the weekend."

Mr Corbett said the odd shower could fall in places tomorrow night, but things would settle down again fairly quickly, with light southeast breezes.

The advantage of living by the coast meant the sea breeze would help keep temperatures moderate, without it being uncomfortably hot, Mr Corbett said.

The warm summer has kept surf lifesavers busy while festivals and events in the Bay have recorded high turnouts. On Saturday 7000 people visited the 118th annual Tauranga A&P; Show almost double last year's turnout. And 2000 people attended the Avocado Food and Wine Festival in Katikati.
