Taupo cycle challenge 'not affected' by eruption
Organisers of the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge say yesterday's Mt Tongariro eruption has not affected the event.
The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is being held on Saturday and organisers have said at this stage there was no changes to the event.
The event's safety officer and operations director have checked the whole event route and while there has been some light volcanic ash fall in the it has not affected the course.
A full contingency plan has been developed should it need to be implemented at any time between now and the weekend.
Event Director Kay Brake said they were monitoring the situation closely.
"[We] wish to assure everyone that should circumstances change over the coming days we will notify event participants as well as updating our website, www.cyclechallenge.com."
