Huka Prawn Park owner Richard Klein says 10,000 prawns are still to be accounted for.
A group of teenagers have been charged in relation to an alleged night-time raid, which netted $10,000 worth of prawns.
Huka Prawn Park in Taupo had one of its 3000sq m ponds, which can hold up to 30,000 prawns, drained as the thieves attempted to clear the entire pond of its contents.
Four men were spotted by the park's security team, who contacted the police but two others were able to get away with a significant haul of prawns.
Park owner Richard Klein said close to 10,000 prawns were still to be accounted for and he was now working with police to find them.
Mr Klein said it was the first time to his knowledge that the park had been raided since it was burgled 10 years ago.
While irritated about the large number of prawns taken, Mr Klein praised the police and the park security team for their quick actions.
Four youths aged 17 t0 19 have been charged with burglary and will appear in the Taupo District Court next Wednesday.
Taupo Senior Sergeant James McGrogan said the police knew the identities of the other two alleged burglars and were looking for them.
