Racing, live entertainment, stalls and competitions for all ages will be the main features of the Summery Family Fun day at Te Teko.

Whakatane Racing Club is hosting the event on Monday - Auckland Anniversary - at the Te Teko Racecourse on Grieve Rd.

While the first race gets under way at 12.20pm, gates to the venue open at 10.30am due to the "huge amount of entertainment on offer",says racing club president Alan Cole.

"There's a heap of kids entertainment and all of it is free."

A bouncy castle, jeep rides and a lolly scramble should go a long way towards keeping the young ones occupied.

Honey, fruit and art are included in the large variety of food and vendor stalls that will operate throughout the day.

And, for the competitive among us, Summer Family Fun is promoting a Best Hat competition for men and the women at the racecourse. The contest will also pave the way for the Trendsetter Outfit competition.

There is a lucky punters' draw and a punters' club and all this takes place to the sound of live entertainment.

Whakatane's Fiona Cosgrove and a Roving Irish Band will perform.

The main attraction will be the eight thoroughbred races that run throughout the afternoon.

Mr Cole said the track was in superb condition.

"We've just had the track looked at by venue inspectors from Wellington."

He said a huge crowd was expected at the track and organisers were "ready to rumble".

Tickets are $5 for those 18 years and older while children are free.
