Thunder and heavy rain could be on the menu today.

Summer weather is on hold for Rotorua, Taupo and Whakatane this week with the MetService forecasting a few days of patchy rain and possible isolated downpours, heavy and thundery.

A weak trough is expected to lie over northern and central parts of the country.

From today for a few days, this trough should bring rainy or showery periods, including the odd heavy downpour.
