Top students recognised at Daily Post breakfast

Some of the Central North Island's top young people have been recognised for outstanding work and contributions to their respective schools.

The 21 students from secondary schools in the region were awarded The Daily Post Youth in Excellence Award at a breakfast at Rotorua's Capers Epicurean yesterday.

The guest speaker was one of Rotorua's youngest recently elected district councillors, Russell Judd. He spoke about his goal of becoming the country's Minister of Forestry and the importance of setting goals and encouraged the students to want to achieve big things.

Rotorua's new Mayor Kevin Winters was also at the breakfast.

The recipients of The Daily Post Youth in Excellence Award are: Arna Wright, Te Puke High School, Benji Crossley, Rotorua Boys' High School, Katherine Harrison, Forest View High School, Matthew Handcock, Forest View High School, Eilidh Bocker, Taupo-Nui-A-Tia College, Sriharan Selvaratnam, Whakatane High School, Grace Jensen, Rotorua Lakes High School, Rachel Turner, Trident High School, Clare Kowalewski, John Paul College, Emily Bird, Rotorua Girls' High School, Jessica Connell, Reporoa College, Laura Macdonald, Rotorua Girls' High School, Alexander Bult, Kawerau College, Tracey Dobson, Edgecumbe College, Andrew Jones, Tokoroa High School, Rennie Grace, Opotiki College, Henara Pirika, Te Kura O Ruamata, Stacy Keepa-Teddy, Rangitahi College, Vincent Fletcher, Tauhara College, Teri Hohneck, Western Heights High School, and Kimo Houltham, Te Kura O Te Koutu School.

The Daily Post Youth in Excellence awards will take a break over the Christmas holidays and return in February next year.
