Rotorua mental health worker Frances Porter got the surprise of her life when a large group of volunteers turned up on her doorstep to give her property a landscape makeover.
As part of the TV One programme Mucking In, Ms Porter's unkempt property was given a new lease on life.
"I was in such shock when they asked me what I would like. I said only three things ... natives, water and a koru.
"They could have done anything and it would have looked better than what it was."
Ms Porter was still in a state of disbelief when The Daily Post caught up with her yesterday.
"I just love it. It looks fabulous."
Ms Porter was nominated by colleagues from her work, Supporting Families in Mental Health, who also put in the hard yards over the weekend to help complete the new garden.
Although the makeover's final details can't be revealed until the programme is aired next year, the new garden includes a special koru water feature made by a Gisborne designer, as well as plenty of native plants and a special outdoor dining area at the back of the house.
The makeover started on Thursday evening and continued until late Saturday afternoon.
"This has been better than winning Lotto ... I would have still had to organise everything and get in tradesmen. This is way better than everything. It is great," an excited Ms Porter said.
