Coming live from Ohinemutu this Thursday will be Breakfast weather presenter Tamati Coffey, who is stopping in Rotorua for his farewell tour.

The TVNZ star announced on Friday he is leaving the morning news show so he can be in England with his partner, Tim Smith.

He will be spending this week doing one of his well-known weather road trips for his Tamati Take Off Tour, and will be filming live from Ohinemutu on Thursday from 6am.

Coffey said his TVNZ bosses had given him a "bit of a free run" for his last week on the show. He will be going to three different places, Lower Hutt, Southland and Rotorua.

He said in Lower Hutt he would be filming from his old primary school, Taita Central School. In Southland, he will be coming live from Nightcaps, a small town he said he had always wanted to visit but had never before found the time. In Rotorua, he will be filming in front of Tamatekapua meeting house.

"Although I wasn't brought up in Rotorua, my whanau is from there and my mum and dad live there. On Thursday, I will be live outside Tamatekapua doing the weather and I want lots of people to come down and be there. It's my final farewell so it's just me going there and hanging out with the people outside my marae."

Being an early morning show, Coffey said the television crew would be setting up in Ohinemutu from 5am and he would be crossing live to the Breakfast show from 6am to 9am.

"I will be chatting to people, getting people on TV. There will be a few surprises, but I can't confirm anything." Coffey has regularly branched out from his role on Breakfast, most recently taking the presenter's job on New Zealand's Got Talent. He hopes finalists JGeeks will make an appearance on Thursday's Breakfast show.
