Rotorua's breastfeeding mums are encouraged to join forces at the Big Latch On next Friday to mark World Breastfeeding Week.
Rotorua organisers are hoping for a record turnout at the Rotorua District Library and Plunket House where at 10.30am on Friday, August 5, mums will try to break the record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously.
Rotorua La Leche League spokeswoman Chris Gower-Rudman said World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated in more than 170 countries and this year's theme was about communication.
She said the children's librarian would read stories for older children accompanying their mums at the library while Plunket would provide a morning tea after the big latch on.
"It's an opportunity to let breastfeeding women know about their nationwide mother-to-mother support network.
"Mothers can connect either face-to-face for help and encouragement, by telephoning an accredited leader, or by visiting the La Leche League New Zealand Facebook page or website.
"Support for mums can make all the difference to a successful breastfeeding relationship," she said.
To join Rotorua's Big Latch On head to Plunket House, 1436 Pukuatua St, or the Rotorua District Library, by 10am to register for the event that starts at 10.30am.
