Rotorua's Mike Smith is offering a service to help local writers publish their books online as an e-book.

Rotorua writers will be able to make their books more accessible through a new service launched during New Zealand Book Month.

Rotorua's Mike Smith, director of Business Media Services Books, is offering a service to help local writers publish their books online as an e-book.

Mr Smith said as part of the service he would convert a document to a digital format to sell online, for people to read on their tablets or iPhones.

"Booksellers are doing good work in trying to present local books but they are also under the gun financially and are very restricted in what they can offer local writers."

He said an e-book was a good alternative to hard-copy publication and made the writer's work accessible nationally and internationally.

Mr Smith said the cost to convert a writer's work to an e-book would be $60.

If interested in the service, contact Mike Smith at ms@bms.co.nz or (07) 349 4107.
