Overseas: Rotorua's Jason Trembath flies to Scotland on Sunday to take up a contract for Scottish cricket club Carlton.
While most Rotorua cricketers have put their gear away for the winter, Jason Trembath is getting ready to don his whites for a season in the Scottish league.
The 22-year-old left-arm spinner has a contract to play a season for Carlton Cricket Club.
Carlton is one of Scotland's leading cricket clubs in the premier league. The club runs four adult teams, eight junior teams, a Sunday Friendly XI and have a thriving junior coaching programme which Trembath will be involved with.
In all, more than 400 members pay to play and watch cricket at Grange Loan, Edinburgh.
Trembath said he was excited by the opportunity to see if he could foot it with some of the best cricketers in Scotland.
"I've always wanted to go overseas and play and now that it's happening I'm pretty happy about it."
Despite being the leading wicket taker in the two Baywide Championships, taking 34 wickets, with his best bowling figures being six wickets for 16 runs, Trembath said he had had an average season.
"I didn't really get any time playing for the Bay side this season and I didn't really do that much with the bat. I scored a couple of fifties but didn't really go on to make a good score. I tended to try and slog it out, rather than settle my innings down."
Trembath, who flies out on Sunday, said he hoped to make a big impression for his new club.
"I'm getting thrown into the deep end to be honest. I'll only get three days to adjust to my new [environment] and then I'm into it. But I don't mind that at all. I like that sort of pressure."
The all-rounder said he would be taking the opportunity the same way he bowls.
"I'm always attacking when I bowl. Right from the start I'm trying to get a wicket. It sometimes leads to my downfall because I try too much and a batsman gets on to it and I end up getting smashed. But that's just how I play."
Trembath is keen to make an impression with his batting.
"I think they are going to bat me at six which is an all-rounder's position. So I'm looking to try and take a more settled approach."
The former Rotorua Boys High School First XI captain said he was contracted to Carlton until mid-September but hoped it could lead to a longer-term contract.
Trembath knows all about coming through for your club.
Playing against Eastern Bay of Plenty, he took three wickets and top scored with 54 runs helping his club take the Attrill Cup.
