The timing couldn't have been better for Rotorua Boys' High School.
With New Zealand's rowing golden twins - Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell - guest speaking at a special fundraising dinner for the school in the Sulphur City tomorrow night, the school's rowers returned home triumphant following a club regatta at Lake Karapiro at the weekend.
Four of the school's crews made the most of the conditions to cross the finish line in the top position. These included the the senior boys club eight; the under-18 coxed four senior boys'; the under-16 eight and the under-16 fours.
Boys' High rowing coach James Cooney said he was delighted the performances were successful - especially because it was one of their first outings of the season.
It was also timely with the Athens gold medal rowing champions - who last month were named the International Rowing Federation Female Crew of the Year as well as Athlete Ambassadors for New Zealand's 2010 world championship bid - attending the fundraising dinner at the Rotorua Convention Centre tomorrow night along with Rowing NZ chief executive Craig Ross.
Cooney said the evening was to help the school purchase a boat so they could take a positive step towards achieving their ultimate goal of winning the Maadi Cup.
