New Zealand motocross rider Ben Townley's bright start to the second round of the US motocross championship at Wortham, Texas, this morning (NZT) was ruined by a second race pile-up.
Townley, returning to action after 30 months on the sidelines because of injury, carried on where he left off last weekend in the world MX1 championship's US Grand Prix at Glen Helen, California, when he won the second race.
Townley rode his Honda into third place in yesterday's opening race behind the Suzukis of American Ryan Dungey and defending champion Chad Reed of Australia.
But he was run over after getting involved in a pile-up at the start of the second race and finished 16th after remounting.
The round was won by Dungey who posted two victories.
Sixth overall after the first round at Hangtown, California two weeks ago, Townley has slipped down a place in the overall standings, which Reed continues to head. NZPA
